Michael Jackson's hair to be turned into diamonds

Those who seek a tasteful, restrained tribute to Michael Jackson may soon have an alternative – diamonds made from the singer's charred hair. A company called LifeGem has announced plans to make jewellery from Jackson's seared locks, recovered at the scene of a Pepsi commercial where the King of Pop's head caught fire.

"Our plan is to give people an opportunity to own a diamond made from Michael Jackson's DNA," Dean VandenBiesen, founder of LifeGem, announced.

But LifeGem's tissue sample hasn't come directly from the Jackson family, rather the source of the company's DNA was collected at the 1984 commercial shoot where Jackson was severely injured by faulty pyrotechnics. Executive producer Ralph Cohen used his Armani jacket to extinguish Jackson's burning head – and then saved the charred hair that fell to the floor.

Twenty-five years later, collector John Reznikoff acquired the hair from Cohen and contacted Chicago-based LifeGem to make a deal. Reznikoff had worked with them in 2007, making gemstones from tresses that once belonged to Ludwig van Beethoven.

"The provenance and authenticity of this lock of hair is impeccable," Reznikoff said, citing "the highly publicised video" that shows Cohen putting out the fire with his jacket. Jackson suffered second-degree burns during the shoot, introducing him to painkillers. An addiction to these drugs may be linked to the singer's death.

"We are currently evaluating the sample to determine how many diamonds can be created," VandenBiesen said. "This will be a limited collection and we anticipate great interest."

Jackson died on 25 June.

Michael Jackson rumors out of control as King of Pop's death still captivates

Michael Jackson rumours

Michael Jackson death

Michael Jackson casanova in concert

In life, Michael Jackson sold millions of records.
In death, he's spawned about as many rumors.
The gossip is as outlandish as Jackson's wardrobe, and as ever-changing as his face. And who knows - some of it may even be true.
Was he murdered? Was he gay? Did he really father those kids? Nothing's off-limits - not even his corpse.
The obsession over Jackson's body heated up before it was cold. One report said he was frozen for later testing; another that the gold coffin at his memorial was empty.
Motown founder Berry Gordy had to deny a story he was hiding the star's body in his family crypt at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The National Enquirer claimed the Jackson family was afraid "organized criminals" would steal the remains.
Then there's the ultimate intrigue: that Jackson is actually still alive. The wacko concept has spawned sites such as MichaelJacksonHoax-Death.com.
Officially, Jackson, 50, died June 25 at his rented Los Angeles home.
His body was released by the coroner after the autopsy - followed by his brain a couple of weeks later - and is at an undisclosed location while the family decides where to bury him.
Autopsy results have not been released, but the smart money is on a drug overdose as the cause of death.
Investigators are tight-lipped about the probe, but a warrant served on Dr. Conrad Murray, who found Jackson unconscious, cited manslaughter.
That's tamer than what sister LaToya Jackson thinks.
"I believe Michael was murdered," she said from her perch on the rumor mill. "I felt that from the start. Not just one person was involved. Rather, it was a conspiracy of people."
Much of the speculation that erupted after Jackson's death centers on his three children. Or is it four?
The latest gnarl in the family tree involves a 25-year-old Norwegian rapper and dancer named Omer Bhatti, who has emerged as a possible love child.
The speculation - which first surfaced in 2002 - was fueled by Bhatti's presence in the front row of the memorial service and his striking resemblance to Jackson's 7-year-old son, Blanket.
One account, in Star magazine, claims Bahtti's mother, Pia, is also the mother of Blanket.
The mother of the older two kids, Prince Michael and Paris, is Debbie Rowe. Or so they say.
Conventional wisdom has long held that the children were conceived with Jackson's sperm, but the big daddy of all the rumors is that he's not the biological father.
The ex-boyfriend of Jackson dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein told Radaronline.com the King of Pop was sterile because he had been savagely kicked in the testicles by his father, Joe.
Klein supposedly donated the sperm used to impregnate Rowe, and London's Daily Mirror said he's been bragging to pals, "I'm their real dad."
Just to make things extra confusing, one report at TMZ.com suggested Rowe wasn't the biological mother but a surrogate and that donor eggs were used.
Rowe's lawyer slammed the report as "entirely false," and Jackson's family also said the children are "100% his."
You can almost hear Jackson spinning in his ... well, wherever he is.

Michael Jackson's nose missing

Michael Jackson nose missing

Michael Jackson's nose was missing as he lay in state claims an eyewitness.

The eyewitness claims he saw the Beat It singer's body on an autopsy table of a Los Angeles morgue with part of his face completely disappeared.

The witness said: "The prosthesis he normally attached to his damaged nose was missing, revealing bits of cartilage surrounding a small dark hole."

Jackson, who died a month ago of a suspected cardiac arrest, was believed to have had a number of surgical operations change the shape of his nose, which eventually eroded it away. He was also thought to be obsessed with plastic surgery and altering his appearance.

The witness added: "Jackson's face, which he had so painfully reworked and concealed from the public for decades now, lay out in the open undisguised under the harsh lights."

One of the King Of Pop's former housekeepers has previously told how the singer kept a number of false noses, which he applied using plasters and glue.

Adrian McManus said: "In his closet he had a jar of fake noses and stage glue, which he told me he used for disguises. But some were similar to his real nose, just without the hole."

Reasons for Jackson's fascination with surgery are unclear, though he has hinted it was because he was bullied as a child. Other sources said he was desperate not to look like his father, Joe Jackson, whom he had accused of hitting him as a youngster and making fun of his appearance.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles police have named the pop legend's personal doctor, Conrad Murray as a manslaughter suspect in a probe into the star's death.

Although toxicology reports have not confirmed the exact cause of Jackson's death, it is believed he had dangerous levels of intravenously administered anaesthetic drug Propofol in his body at the time of his passing.

Murray was with the singer when he died and also made an attempt to revive him.

A warrant issued by police allowed officers to search Murray's assets for: "Property or items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show Dr Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence." Murray denies involvement in the singer's death.

  • Live In Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour is a live concert DVD released by Michael Jackson in 2005. The DVD was previously included with the Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection box set. The concert took place during Jackson's first leg on his Dangerous World Tour on October 1, 1992 at the Bucharest National Stadium, with a sold-out attendance of 70,000. This concert is the only concert by Jackson that has been released on DVD; along with the HIStory Concert in Seoul, which was released as a VHS in Korea, the two concerts are the only ones that have been officially released.

There are various versions of the same concert that exist. The first version was broadcasted the next day by BBC; following Jackson's death, this version was rebroadcast on BNN/Ned3. All the footage in this version is from the Bucharest concert. The version that appears on the DVD was broadcast on HBO in 1992, which became the highest audience in the channel's history for a single broadcast. This version, while mostly having footage of Jackson performing at the Bucharest Concert, also consisted of many audience shots from concerts in other locations such as Madrid and Wembley, heavily edited crowd noises, and is also missing the We Are The World Interlude that was included in the original BBC Telecast, leading to some criticism from some fans.

The DVD has sold 950,000 copies worldwide.

LOS ANGELES — MICHAEL Jackson was eulogized in words and song Tuesday by an all-star list of musicians, athletes and other celebrities during a mournful ceremony in downtown Los Angeles, with the most poignant moment delivered by his sobbing 11-year-old daughter.

"I just want to say ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him so much," Paris-Michael Jackson said before almost collapsing in the arms of her aunt Janet Jackson.

Watched by millions around the world, the memorial struck a tone more spiritual than spectacular, opening with a church choir serenading his golden casket and continuing with sombre speeches and gospel-infused musical performances.

The Rev. Lucious W. Smith of the Friendship Baptist Church in Pasadena gave the greeting on the same stage where Jackson had been rehearsing for a concert series in the days before his June 25 death at age 50.

Then Mariah Carey sang the opening performance with a sweet rendition of the Jackson 5 ballad I’ll Be There, a duet with Trey Lorenz.

"We come together and we remember the time," said Smith, riffing on one of Jackson’s lyrics. "As long as we remember him, he will always be there to comfort us."

Millions of fans around the world gathered at odd hours to watch the ceremony, which was broadcast by the major TV networks and cable channels from Tokyo to Paris to New York and streamed everywhere online in one of the biggest celebrity send-offs ever seen.

Among those who saluted Jackson were Motown music mogul Berry Gordy Jr., Brooke Shields, the Rev. Al Sharpton and basketball greats Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant. Jennifer Hudson sang Jackson’s hit Will You Be There and John Mayer played guitar on a whisper-light rendition of Human Nature.

"This is a moment that I wished I didn’t live to see," Stevie Wonder said before his performance. Usher broke down in tears after singing Gone Too Soon.

Although the event was billed as a celebration, some speakers took the occasion to come to the defence of Jackson, whose life was marked as much by criticism and scorn as scintillating talent.

Gordy said that despite what he called "some sad times and maybe some questionable decisions on his part," the title King of Pop wasn’t good enough for Jackson. "I think he is simply the greatest entertainer that ever lived," Gordy said.

Emotions rose when Sharpton delivered a fiery eulogy highlighting all the barriers Jackson broke and the troubles he faced. "Every time he got knocked down, he got back up," Sharpton said, and the applauding crowd jumped to its feet.

Sharpton rode the moment, building to a crescendo.

"There wasn’t nothing strange about your daddy," he said later, addressing Jackson’s three children in the front row. "It was strange what your daddy had to deal with!" After he left the stage, chants of "Mi-chael! Mi-chael!" filled the arena.

The ceremony wrapped up with group performances of "We Are the World" and "Heal the World" sung by Lionel Richie, Hudson and Jackson family members — including his children — before a backdrop of symbols of religions from around the world. They were joined onstage by children in white and several other people who had participated in the ceremony. Then members of Jackson’s family took the stage to thank the crowd and share their own thoughts, barely able to hide their emotion as they hugged in the ceremony’s final moments.

    1958-2009 Michael Jackson Memorial

An estimated 20,000 people were in the Staples Center as Jackson’s flower-draped casket was brought to the venue in a motorcade under police escort. Those who gathered constituted a visual representation of Jackson’s life: black, white and everything in between, wearing fedoras and African headdresses, sequins and surgical masks.

Fans with a ticket wore gold wristbands and picked up a metallic gold program guide on their way in. Acting as pallbearers, Jackson’s brothers each wore a gold necktie and, in a touch borrowed from their brother, a single spangly white glove and sunglasses.

Brother Jermaine Jackson took the stage and sang the standard Smile as he fought back tears.

Jackson’s hearse had been part of a motorcade that smoothly whisked his body 16 kilometres across closed freeways from a private service at a Hollywood Hills cemetery to his public memorial and awaiting fans.

The traffic snarls and logistical nightmares that had been feared by police and city officials did not materialize. Traffic was actually considered by police to be lighter than normal.

"I think people got the message to stay home," said California Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Luevano.

    MJ King of Pop

Deputy Police Chief Sergio Diaz, operations chief for the event, said authorities had expected a crowd of 250,000. Besides reporters and those with tickets to the memorial service, the crowd around the Staples Center perimeter numbered only about 1,000, he said.

Outside the Staples Center, Claudia Hernandez, 29, said she loved Jackson’s music as a girl growing up in Mexico. Now a daycare teaching assistant in Los Angeles, Hernandez said she cried watching TV coverage of his death.

"I’m trying to hold in my emotions," said Hernandez, wearing a wristband to allow her admittance to the service and holding a framed photograph of Jackson. "I know right now he’s teaching the angels to dance."

More than 1.6 million people registered for the lottery for free tickets to Jackson’s memorial. A total of 8,750 were chosen to receive two tickets each.

"There are certain people in our popular culture that just capture people’s imaginations. And in death, they become even larger," President Barack Obama told CBS while in Moscow. "Now, I have to admit that it’s also fed by a 24-7 media that is insatiable."

It was not clear what will happen to Jackson’s body. The Forest Lawn Memorial Park Hollywood Hills cemetery is the final resting place for such stars as Bette Davis, Andy Gibb, Freddie Prinze, Liberace and recently deceased David Carradine and Ed McMahon.

Goodbye Michael Jackson King of Pop: The most huge media event in history

LOS ANGELES - It was not spectacular, extravagant or bizarre. There were songs and tears but little dancing. Instead, Michael Jackson’s memorial was a somber, spiritual ceremony that reached back for the essence of the man.

Singer, dancer, superstar, humanitarian: That was how the some 20,000 people gathered inside the Staples Center arena on Tuesday, and untold millions watching around the world, remembered Jackson, whose immense talents almost drowned beneath the spectacle of his life and fame.

If there was a shocking moment, it came in the form of Jackson’s daughter, Paris-Michael, who made the first public statement of her 11 years

Michael Jackson Music Album Download 10: Number Ones

Number Ones is a greatest hits album of singer-songwriter Michael Jackson released by Sony Music worldwide on November 17, 2003 (and one day later in the United States). It was Jackson's first proper compilation album with Sony, after the release of HIStory – Past, Present and Future, Book I in 1995 (and after the re-release of that album as a single-CD, only-hits edition in 2001). Adopting the concept from blockbuster greatest hits compilations such as The Beatles' 1 (2000) or ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits (2002), the album included Jackson singles that reportedly reached #1 in charts around the world (this way, the number-one rule was extended besides the UK/US-restricted politics used for the Beatles and Elvis compilations).

Michael Jackson Music Album Download 08: Blood on the Dance Floor

Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix is a 1997 remix album by Michael Jackson. The album is made up of eight remixes from Jackson's previous studio album HIStory, and five new songs. Jackson was heavily involved with the production of the new material while the remixes were produced by other artists. The new material dealt with themes such as drug addiction, women and paranoia.

The album received minimal promotion by Jackson's standards, particularly in the US. Still, a film, two singles ("Blood on the Dance Floor" and "HIStory/Ghosts") and three music videos were issued as promotion. Reviews at the time of release were largely mixed, some critics felt that Jackson had already explored these musical themes while others criticized what they perceived as weak vocals. Other critics were favorable, with praise issued for similarities to the music of Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor.

Worldwide sales stand at six million copies as of 2007, making it the best selling remix album ever released.

Michael Jackson was still going for pop hits with 1991's Dangerous, but he also front-loaded the album with six straight Teddy Riley-assisted cuts. This half-hour swoop of tense, aggressive, often angular funk was Jackson's most interesting music since Thriller, and still sounds, well, invincible on this remastered edition. After that, the record's uneven, but there's nothing embarrassing about it, either. "Gone Too Soon," a non-Jackson composition about teen AIDS casualty Ryan White, is a quiet statement (particularly played next to the choir-laden "Heal the World," "Keep the Faith," and "Will You Be There") showing that the star doesn't always have to get showy. The sprightly "Black or White" is explicitly pro-interracial romance, an angle its video didn't go near, and the urgent "Give In to Me" is almost scary. Scary good, that is. --Rickey Wright

Michael Jackson Music Album Download 05: Bad

"Bad" was a 1987 hit recording by American singer Michael Jackson. The song was the second of five Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit singles from the album Bad, and was his seventh number-one single overall.[1]

The song was originally intended as a duet with longtime rival Prince. Quincy Jones, in an interview included in the special edition of Bad, said that Prince told Jackson and him that he had not wanted to participate because "it would be a hit without (him)".

In his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk, Jackson wrote: "'Bad' is a song about the street. It's about this kid from a bad neighborhood who gets to go away to a private school. He comes back to the old neighborhood when he's on a break from school and the kids from the neighborhood start giving him trouble. He sings, 'I'm bad, you're bad, who's bad, who's the best?' He's saying when you're strong and good, then you're bad."

In 2006, the single, as well as the video, was re-released as part of the Visionary - The Video Singles package.

"We wanted a tough album," producer Quincy Jones recalls in a bonus interview on this special edition of Bad. Though the 1987 blockbuster would appear to be Michael Jackson's most personal statement to date--9 of its 11 cuts were written solely by him--its appeal also rested more on craft than the idiosyncratic art of Thriller and Off the Wall. At the same time, most of Bad has aged well in spite of its digital brittleness and MIDI treatments of gems like Jimmy Smith's organ solo on the title track. While the third best of his first three Epic solo discs, Bad carries a lot of what people love about Jackson's music. This disc also benefits from two fine outtakes, the exciting, uptempo "Streetwalker" and the Carpenters homage "Fly Away." Either could easily have extended the record's run of hit singles. --Rickey Wright
